The Ocean University of China (OUC) is celebrating its 100th anniversary day, which is on October 25, in Qingdao. The official ceremony of the anniversary was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including the Vice Minister of Education Wang Jiayi, the Vice Minister of Natural Resources and director of the State Oceanic Administration Sun Shuxian, respected representatives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, the Governor of Shandong province, leaders of relevant departments under the provincial government, international guests from all over the world, academicians and students.
The event commenced with a letter from President Xi Jinping to the entire OUC community. In this letter, the President acknowledged the importance of OUC to the nation's development through ocean exploration and expressed his support for all related activities aimed at building a strong educational country with a significant scientific mission.

It is in China's strategic interest to develop the resources of the world's oceans over the next 100 years, while refraining from claiming sovereign land belonging to other countries. This approach will enable China to meet its domestic needs and ensure food security. According to the 20th CPC National Congress, China remains dedicated to cultivating talents to give a lot of talents to the country in marine research, blue drug storage, and blue granary.
This event, huge in scale and status, marks the beginning of China's journey towards becoming a leading maritime nation. OUC, which has been recognized as 'a world-class university with strong characteristics', has taken on a major role in shaping a new era maritime paradigm.
