It should become the foundation for the development of the shipbuilding industry and create a "triad" of "named" research centres.
The new Krylov Research Centre is proposed to join the Kurchatov Institute (primarily nuclear research) and the Zhukovsky Institute (aviation).
It is necessary to create a National Research Centre for Shipbuilding named after Russian Academician A.N. Krylov. This was stated in an interview by the Aide to the President of Russia, Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, Nikolai Patrushev:
Shipbuilding, as a high-tech sphere, simply needs such a centre. It should become the foundation for the rapid development of the industry, a pioneer in the development of future technologies, similar to the existing national research centres named after Academicians I.V. Kurchatov and N.E. Zhukovsky, which make a colossal contribution to the development of unique technologies in the nuclear industry and aviation.

He noted that every year the need for an icebreaker fleet, Arctic ice-class vessels, emergency rescue, and auxiliary fleets increases. "Therefore, innovative ideas are needed to create new icebreakers, nuclear, transport, fishing, and scientific fleets. It is necessary to improve the scientific and experimental base in shipbuilding, increase the efficiency of research and development work," said Nikolai Patrushev.
Background: The existing Krylov State Research Centre is one of the world's largest research centres in the field of shipbuilding and design. It was founded in 1894.
