A chum equipped with an artificial intelligence system has been developed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. A chum is a temporary dwelling used by the nomadic Uralic reindeer herders of northwestern Siberia.
The traditional housing of the indigenous peoples of the North will now operate on the principles of smart home technology. The chum is equipped with a satellite connection to the internet and a voice assistant that can control heating and lighting, as well as alert emergency services.
Residents of such a smart chum will also be able to observe deer grazing with the help of a quadcopter, use telemedicine services, and learn their native language.
In areas of compact residence, the Evenks will now have the opportunity to keep in touch with the whole world. Today, when discussing the modernisation of the traditional economy, we must begin with living conditions.
The dwelling of the Evenks has not changed since the 19th century. This is scientists’ attempt to modernise this housing to meet contemporary realities. Internet access is expected to reduce the outflow of young people from the traditional residences of the indigenous peoples and improve business opportunities in the North.
