The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) plans to create a centre for joint scientific research on the basis of the unique ice-resistant North Pole platform. Russian polar explorers invited scientists from China, India and Brazil to join the project.
The platform is expected to facilitate international cooperation. Concrete discussion of joint scientific programs is already underway in terms of research, provision of equipment from counterparts, the number of scientists who will be able to participate, there is agreement in principle.
Research programs and schedules for the participation of scientists from the BRICS countries will be agreed upon later. The North Pole platform is preparing for its next expedition, scheduled to begin on September 15, with an expected duration until the spring of 2026. During this time, the platform will facilitate rotations of scientific teams and ship's crew members to ensure continuous research.
The second Circumpolar expedition jointly organized by Russian scientists in Antarctica is due to start from Brazil. About 80 specialists from more than 10 countries will take part in it. The first Circumpolar expedition took place in 2016-2017.
Russian and Chinese scientists have decided to create an international scientific centre in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. In addition, it was agreed to continue the partnership on Dronning Maud Land Air Network Project (DROMLAN) in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica.
