🔹 The International Arctic Forum to Be Held in Murmansk

The venue for the International Arctic Forum Arctic—Territory of Dialogue will be Murmansk on 26 and 27 March. The choice of the city is perceived positively in Russia.

🔹 New Agreement Will Strengthen Greenland’s Defence

After lengthy negotiations, an agreement to strengthen defence in the Arctic in Greenland and the North Atlantic has been reached. The agreement allocates almost 15 billion kroner (£1.8 billion), the Defence Minister said.

🔹 Canada Seeks Coordinated Response to Trump’s Threatened Tariffs / Trump Team’s Two-Phase Tariff Threats on Canada

Canada is trying to bring together the EU, Britain, and Mexico for a coordinated response to the tariffs that U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened on goods from these countries. Meanwhile, the U.S. has revealed a two-stage tariff plan in which Canada and Mexico will face initial trade threats within days, then again face broader threats this spring. In summary: maybe tariffs now, and maybe more tariffs later.

🔹 Murmansk Scientists Propose Algae to Clean the Black Sea Spill

According to the Russian Transport Ministry, about 2,400 tonnes of oil products entered the Black Sea as the result of the fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait. Murmansk scientists propose using bacteria and algae to help clean the sea.

🔹 The Exercises Safe Arctic—2025 Conclude in Chukotka

On 31st January, a large-scale exercise of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the Arctic Zone was completed in Pevek, Chukotka. During the programme, from 29 to 31 January, each participating Arctic region had a dedicated exercise.
