BRICS+ Forum: Discussions on Topical Issues of Arctic Development

The event will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia on 9 November 2023

St. Petersburg, Russia will host the 5th International Municipal BRICS+ Forum on 9-11 November 2023. The programme of the Forum includes the section ‘Multilateral cooperation in the Arctic: Interests and strategies’, which will take place tomorrow from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm Moscow time. The section is co-organised by the Expert Center Project Office for Arctic Development.

The participants will discuss the following questions:

  • What are the priority areas of joint activities of the BRICS states in the Arctic region?
  • How to protect the environment and climate of the Arctic?
  • In which direction should transport and logistics (including the Northern Sea Route) be developed?
  • What multilateral projects and initiatives should be implemented to achieve the sustainable development of the Arctic?

International Municipal BRICS+ Forum is an annual business forum.

As the role of BRICS on the global stage grows, the Forum attracts more representatives from around the world each year. In 2023, at least 7,000 participants from 56 countries will attend the event. The Forum’s business programme will encompass 120 events, including expert sessions and sections, a plenary session, business conferences and panel discussions, master classes, presentations of investment projects and round tables.

The Expert Center Project Office for Arctic Development (the PORA Expert Center) was established on 7 December 2017. The Office is involved in a variety of projects relating to social, economic and environmental aspects of human activity in the High North.
