The project to locate the production of lithium-ion batteries in the Murmansk region is of strategic importance.
The joint venture of Norilsk Nickel and Rosatom, Polar Lithium, is conducting work on the development of the Kolmozerskoye field. This venture was established in 2021. So far, the Chinese MCC International Incorporation has been assigned a significant role in exploration and development, as envisaged below.
The Chinese specialists will study the properties of the ore of the Kolmozerskoye field, develop technologies for ore enrichment and chemical and metallurgical processing of concentrate, calculate the characteristics of the equipment of the concentrator and chemical and metallurgical production.
In 2030, it is planned to build and put into operation a mine in the Murmansk region, an enrichment plant for the extraction and enrichment of about 2 million tonnes of ore per year, as well as a chemical and metallurgical plant with a capacity of 45 thousand tonnes of lithium hydroxide and carbonate.
MCC International Incorporation is a subsidiary of the state owned China Metallurgical Group Corporation. It has extensive experience in the design, supply of equipment and construction of mining and processing, metallurgical enterprises, production of lithium carbonate and hydroxide of battery grades.
