Currently, digitalization is a priority for the development of the Arctic. The State Duma, one of the chambers of the Russian parliament, approved a law on the creation of a state environmental monitoring system.
In a year and a half, everyone will be able to see the condition of the environment in their region, their municipality, their street, and their facility on a tablet or mobile phone. And thus, the safety of living or environmental safety will be transparent and clear to everyone, said Alexander Kogan, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Ecological Operator will be the operator of the system. The information system will be created on the unified digital platform “GovTech”. It will be integrated with other information systems and will provide more detailed information on the current state of the environment.
Environmental information must be open and accessible. The unified digital system will provide data collection from a variety of sources from 15 existing and one planned subsystem of environmental monitoring. For example, on the condition of atmospheric air, water bodies, subsoil, Lake Baikal, and waste disposal sites. It will allow to improve the quality of data, promptly receive and respond to information on pollution, identify and record violations, commented Alexander Kozlov, Head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The project will be done in 2023-2025.
