Donald Trump Jr.'s plane has landed on Greenlandic soil. He will reportedly be in Nuuk for four to five hours. He says he is here as a tourist.
The son of future U.S. President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., has just landed in Nuuk.
The visit comes in the wake of several statements from the future US president that he would like to make Greenland part of the United States.
But the son himself has made it clear in his podcast, "Triggered with Don Jr.", that he is not traveling to Greenland to conduct political negotiations.
According to the news agency AP, the purpose of the trip is precisely to record content for the same podcast.
When Donald Trump Jr. comes out into the entrance hall at Nuuk airport, KNR catches him making a comment:
We are really happy to be here. We are here as tourists to see this incredible place. We have been talking about coming here for some time. The view was truly spectacular.
He says hello. I spoke to him yesterday, and he says hello to everyone in Greenland, Donald Trump Jr. tells KNR.
The Department of Independence and Foreign Affairs writes in a press release that this is a private visit and that no meetings have been arranged with the Greenlandic government.
Mininnguaq Kleist, head of the Department of Independence and Foreign Affairs, tells the news agency Reuters that the visit is expected to last four to five hours.
Donald Trump Jr. confirms that he will not meet with any politicians while he is here.
No, we will not. It is not on the plan. We are just here as tourists.
It is not for me to comment on. There are others who will comment on that, he says.
The President of Greenland, Múte B. Egede, is also traveling to Denmark today despite Donald Trump Jr.'s visit.
Mininnguaq Kleist tells the newspaper that Múte B. Egede will, among other things, host a New Year's reception at the Greenlandic representation in Copenhagen on Thursday.
