The U.S. Vice President, JD Vance, has now landed in Greenland at Pituffik Space Base.
On board the plane were his wife, Usha Vance, as well as the U.S. National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, and the Republican Senator from Utah, Mike Lee.
The visit comes after the cancellation of the U.S. Second Lady's visit to Nuuk and Sisimiut to attend Avannaata Qimussersua. However, after continued pressure from the Greenlandic population and politicians, the trip was redirected to Pituffik Space Base.
After the coalition agreement was signed this morning in Katuaq in Nuuk, Jens-Frederik Nielsen spoke about the American visit to TV2 and DR:
This whole situation of coming to visit when there is no sitting government, we insist, is not showing respect for an ally, says the incoming chairman of the Greenlandic government and continues:
It's a shame, but now we have a government that needs to get into work clothes, and it will start immediately, says Jens-Frederik Nielsen.
Earlier today, Tusass https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tusass announced that there has been a power outage throughout Pituffik since early morning, and that they therefore lost all connection to the base.
The timing of the power outage at the base was extremely unfortunate, as it unfortunately affected our equipment. I am grateful that we have quickly re-established the connection at the base, writes Jonas Hasselriis, deputy director and responsible for technology and infrastructure at Tusass.
