On May 22-24, the Arctic city of Petrozavodsk hosted I Interregional Scientific Forum The Arctic - Our Global Neighbourhood. The venue facilitated the exchange of knowledge and practices in the field of international cooperation and sustainable development of northern territories, fostering expert dialogue on the most pressing issues in the Arctic region.
Along with representatives of businesses, federal, state and local government bodies, the forum gathered over 300 scientists and experts from universities and research institutions in Russia, India, Italy, and Peru, including Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg State University, the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, as well respective UN experts. The discussion was aimed at developing recommendations on the advancement of northernmost and Arctic territories.
The output of the event resulted from the breakthrough proposals and initiatives in the realm of international scientific cooperation amidst global turbulence, ongoing research in the field of Arctic hydrology, and the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of indigenous peoples.
The Arctic Center of Petrozavodsk University as the convener of the event alongside the team of The Arctic century laid solid foundations for the development of peaceful scientific-business initiatives across the Arctic region.
Following the plenary and sectional sessions within the Forum, promising arrangements have been reached on further cooperation activities.
