Malaysia in the Exercises in the Russian Arctic

Malaysian rescuers will participate in large-scale exercises in Russia's Arctic zone in 2025. Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia made this announcement during the international salon "Integrated Security-2024" on May 31.

Alexander Kurenkov, the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, confirmed Malaysia's involvement after a meeting with Dato Kairul Bin Idrus, Director General of Malaysia's National Agency for Emergency Management. "Malaysian rescuers have shown a confirmed interest at the expert level in joining the Arctic exercises in 2025. This step is a significant move towards international cooperation in emergency management." Kurenkov stated.

This collaboration marks a continuation of practical cooperation that began in 2015. That year, rescuers and divers from both countries worked together on the search operation for the Air Asia plane crash in Indonesian territorial waters. This joint effort highlighted the strong potential for bilateral cooperation in emergency prevention and response.

The ministry representative noted, "Our experience has demonstrated the solid potential for developing cooperation in this field. The successful interaction between Russia and Malaysia on international platforms such as ASEAN and APEC serves as a prime example of our collaborative capabilities."

By the way, in 2023, we reported that Russia invited Vietnam to emergency response exercises in the Arctic. You can read the article at the following link.
