On August 30, the Mikhail Somov scientific expedition vessel will set off with the volunteers of the Clean Arctic project on one of the most difficult expeditions - to Cape Chelyuskin, the northernmost mainland point of Eurasia.
Volunteers will not only clear the territory of the Soviet barrel scrapyard, but also prepare housing for future expeditions. They have passed a serious selection process and have the necessary technical specialties.
The team has been preparing for the expedition for almost a year in order to take into account all the nuances. On board Mikhail Somov there is a cargo weighing 17 tonnes: diesel power plants, sewage treatment plants, a gas welding machine and building materials. The materials are packed in special wooden containers, which will be delivered to the Cape by helicopter.
A quad bike with a trailer was chosen for the removal of metal barrels in the tundra.
The expedition is supported by the Rosatom State Corporation and is designed for almost two months.
It is assumed that expeditions to Cape Chelyuskin will become regular, and preliminary calculations show that there may be up to 40 thousand empty barrels for fuel.
