Murmansk Port Sees Decline in Cargo Turnover

In the first half of 2024, the cargo turnover of the commercial port of Murmansk amounted to 27.3 million tonnes. This is 10.5% less than in the same period last year.

The Murmansk port showed the largest decrease among the seaports of the Arctic Basin. Cargo turnover in Varandey decreased by 2.6% to 2.6 million tonnes, in Sabetta it increased by 6.4% to 14.7 million tonnes, and in Arkhangelsk it increased by 40.6% to 1.2 million tonnes.

The total cargo turnover of the seaports of the Arctic Basin decreased by 4.7% and amounted to 47.2 million tonnes. In particular, the volume of transshipment of dry cargo decreased by 14.6% to 12.7 million tonnes, and bulk cargo by 0.4% to 34.4 million tonnes.

In the whole country, in 2024, during the period from January to June, the cargo turnover of seaports decreased by 3.1% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 448.6 million tonnes, the Association of Commercial Seaports reported.
