Three more emergency and rescue centres will be organised in Tiksi, Dikson and Sabetta
The Arctic Rescue Centre in Pevek will start operating at the end of 2024, Russia's Emergency Situations Minister told the State Duma deputies. The State Duma is one of the chambers of the Russian parliament, the Federal Assembly.
We have started organising the Arctic emergency and rescue centres in key locations of the Arctic Region, the minister said.
Three more emergency and rescue centres will be organised in such Arctic settlements along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) as Tiksi, Dikson and Sabetta.
The Emergency Situations Ministry's rescuers and aviation at the centres will provide safety along the NSR. They will also search and rescue those in distress at seas in the North.
Pevek is the northernmost city in Russia, located in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. The seaport port of Pevek is located on the shore of the East Siberian Sea in the Chaunskaya Bay. It is one of the main ports along the Northern Sea Route.
