Delegations from the Embassy of India in Russia and the Consulate General of India in St. Petersburg paid an official visit to the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI). During the meeting, the participants discussed promising areas of cooperation and proposals for expanding collaboration between AARI and India’s specialised research institutions in the field of polar studies.
The event was attended by Mr. Nikhilesh Chandra Giri, Deputy Ambassador of India to Russia, and Mr. Nilam Rani, Consul General of India in St. Petersburg. Representing Russia were Igor Ashik, AARI Deputy Director for Science, and Yuri Ugryumov, AARI Deputy Director for Expedition Work and Head of the Russian Arctic Expedition in the Svalbard Archipelago.
The international guests were introduced to the institute's key projects in the Arctic and Antarctic, including the operations of the drifting polar station North Pole-42 and the construction of a new wintering complex at the Vostok Station which will support major scientific projects of Russia in the coming years.
