However, the cooperation is not expected solely on a bilateral level—Russia anticipates that the process of returning to normal operations within the Arctic Council, including the resumption of the activities of working groups with Russian participation, will continue. This was stated by Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Problems at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The director of the department recalled that, to date, full-fledged work in the Arctic Council remains frozen at the initiative of Western participants. He added that this organisation remains the only format for multilateral cooperation in high latitudes, and the development of joint solutions in the field of sustainable socio-economic development of the Arctic region, protection of cultural heritage and the rights of indigenous peoples, as well as climate and protection of the vulnerable environment of the Arctic depends on it.

At the same time, the Ministry states that the country remains open to constructive interaction with extra-regional partners, primarily the BRICS countries.
