St. Petersburg Hosts Global Fishery Forum

 

The event unites industry leaders, traders, and retailers from all over the world

The sixth Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo 2023 took place from 27th to 29th September 2023 in St. Petersburg. The Expo featured over 400 companies from 34 Russian regions and 14 countries, sprawling over 26,000 square meters of exhibition space. 

Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, China, Finland, Oman, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, and the USA participated in the Forum.

The participants focused on aquaculture, catching and processing, shipbuilding and ship repair, as well as equipment and components, product distribution, and logistics and storage. The states also presented their developments in these fields during the Forum.

On top of that, the 7th session of the Commission for Preservation, Sustainable Use of Aquatic Bioresources and Management of their Joint Reserves of the Caspian Sea was one of the key Forum’s parts. As a result, the Commission’s participants signed the final protocol.

The commission includes Russia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.

The states declared their intention to expand cooperation in several directions. The countries intend to conduct joint scientific research in the Caspian Sea, as well as carry out joint activities on sturgeon species’ reproduction.

In addition, Chinese corporation Liaoyu held a business meeting. The corporation’s representatives spoke about prospects for cooperation and joint development with interested participants of the Seafood Expo. Liaoyu is the largest diversified government agency in China's fishing industry with a rich history and the highest reputation.

Here are some of the program's highlights:

  • Plenary Session ‘Fishery in a Multipolar World’. Participants discussed strategic directions and key trends of the industry's development in the world;
  • Sessions and roundtables on various aspects of the industry, such as aquaculture, fishing in the Arctic, export and import, quality and safety, marketing and branding, social responsibility, etc.;
  • Fisheries, seafood and related industries Exhibition;
  • Cooking show and tasting, where visitors could try various seafood dishes, as well as learn about the traditions and peculiarities of fish cuisine in different regions and countries.

Global Fishery Forum is the congress event dedicated to discussing the most vital issues of social and economic stability, regulation of fishing and competition, legislative support of the industry and correlation between public and private interests. The Forum identifies the major trends of the socio-economic and political development of the industry and generates ideas to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between countries.
