Schoolchildren from Mongolia, Hungary, India, China, South Africa and other countries will take part in the project, implemented with the support of Rosatom.
On August 13, 2024, the Fifth Arctic expedition Icebreaker of Knowledge will leave Murmansk for the North Pole. The expedition is aimed at popularising the natural science disciplines and technologies of the nuclear industry, searching for and supporting talented and gifted children, developing their abilities and providing career guidance.
This year, the nuclear icebreaker 50 Years of Victory is expected to take an international team of talented schoolchildren and experts from 15 countries on board. Many foreign participants of the expedition will be the first representatives of their countries to reach the North Pole on a nuclear-powered ship.
63 talented schoolchildren will participate in the Icebreaker of Knowledge expedition, including 10 international participants coming from Mongolia, Hungary, India, China and South Africa. They will be joined by 12 winners of the open competition and participants of the Rosatom Juniors movement.
The expert team, which will also embark on the voyage, includes 15 delegates selected as part of the World Youth Festival in Sochi 2024 (representatives of Cameroon, Iraq, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Belarus and other countries). They are going to participate in an educational program with lectures and master classes.
During the expedition, participants are expected to have a rich educational program: lectures, master classes, scientific games, film screenings and much more. The expedition participants will deliver flags of their regions and countries to the North Pole, and during the voyage they are going to get acquainted with the achievements and technologies of the nuclear industry (including solutions for the development of the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route). During the expedition, a series of lectures The Northernmost Lecture Hall and a documentary reality series will be filmed.
The icebreaker 50 years of Victory will be led by Captain Ruslan Sasov. This voyage is going to take place along the route Murmansk – North Pole – Franz Josef Land - Murmansk. The Icebreaker of Knowledge 2024 is expected to arrive at the pole approximately on August 17, and return back to the port of Murmansk approximately on August 22.
